I was in the sunny southeast today to meet with farmers in Wicklow and Wexford. Once again, the issues of farm income, tillage supports, the environment, CAP and the need for improved communications within IFA were to the fore.
Busy day in County Mayo. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop and have a chat. Great to see some fantastic stock on offer today at Ballinrobe Livestock Mart.
This government needs to sit down with IFA, and on foot of an immediate review by Teagasc, significantly revise upward the paltry offer of €11/acre put forward in last week’s tillage aid package. It has been a disastrous year and greater supports are required.
I am very concerned about this government’s commitment to farming as will be evidenced in tomorrow’s Budget. I am visiting tillage producers in Wexford this evening where this will be at the forefront of discussions.
